John Kovach is the Archivist at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. He has authored countless books and articles on the history of baseball in St. Joseph County and South Bend, Indiana. However, his baseball expertise in the history or girls and women in baseball, authoring both books and articles as well as curating a nationally traveling exhibit about the history and impact of females in baseball.

   Kovach has worked to advocate for the equal opportunities for females to play baseball and has consulted in various legal cases all over the United States on this issue as well as co-authoring the Position Paper for the Women’s Sports Foundation on the differences between the sports of baseball and softball.

   The 2015 baseball season will mark his 41st as a baseball coach, the last 20 seasons, specifically coaching female baseball teams. In 2002, Kovach became the first male recipient of the National Women’s Baseball Hall of Fame, Manager of the Year award. He was selected for that honor again in 2004. In 2013, Kovach was recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association for his 500th coaching victory.
